Day Six-Completion Challenge

A shorter post tonight, after a full day.

We began by checking out of our hotel, which meant hauling all of our luggage to hold at the church, while we worked.

A beautiful Mass reminded us all once again that the mission of this trip is not the physical work, but the encounters-of God, the Belizean people and the finding of the two in each other.

After Mass and breakfast, we loaded up and trucked out to the sites, to finish as much as we could before quitting time.

It wasn’t long before the rain moved in and added another level to the challenge of the day. While those at the clinic site had shelter, those working on the family house powered through the downpour to get roofing sheets up.

A few short hours later, we had all but completed the home for Lu and her family. The clinic site came along well also. The living area was nearly finished and the clinic addition underwent a few plan changes, rendering it necessary to be left incomplete.

We faced quite a few obstacles today; injuries, rain, mud/muck and losing a full load of materials and tools out of the back of one of our trucks. We certainly experienced more than our fair share of issues this trip, but God is good and He led us through it.

By some miracle, we got our supplies picked up off the road and back to the church, sorted our belongings, grabbed what we need for the next two days, brought our rental vehicles back, rushed by shuttle to our water taxi and made it to the island of Caye Caulker.

Fr. Scott came out to bless this clinic site, as is his tradition when we are done.

Lu and some family in front of her new front door, proud and grateful.

Yet another rainbow to greet us. This time, over the Caribbean Sea, from our water taxi.

Moonrise over Caye Caulker, where we’ll be staying until Saturday morning when we head back home.

It’s always hard on us to leave work undone, but the good news is that any work not finished by our team is hired out to local businesses. This means people in need can earn an income from these projects.

More will be posted about each project. For now, we are all spending a little time just resting in each other’s company and decompressing from the week, before we return home.
This part is one we often feel guilty about, but have come to realize how important it is that we have this time to rest and share testimonies.

As the motto of this island states, it’s time to “Go Slow,” so that’s what we’ll do. Pray for us, as we pray for you.
